Beliefs

In addition to the Apostle's Creed and the Nicene Creed , Mission New York Churches hold to these 12 beliefs.

1. There is one ultimate God, everlasting, all-powerful.  He exists as one God in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

2. The Son (Jesus), who is the Word of God, took man’s nature (without ever sinning) in the womb of the blessed virgin Mary; Jesus who was God and man literally suffered, was crucified, died and was buried to repair the breach of sin between God and man.

3. Jesus Christ rose from the dead and ascended into heaven defeating death, hell and the grave.

4. The Holy Spirit flows from the Father and the Son and actively lives inside of and leads Christians today.

5. Sixty-six books make up the Bible which is the divinely inspired and completely true Word of God. The Bible is life-giving and the guideline for practicing our Christian faith.

6. Eternal life with God in heaven is the reward of those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ as LORD, and everlasting banishment from the presence of the Lord and unending torture in hell are the wages of the wicked who have disregarded God's grace of Jesus on the cross. (Matthew 25:46; Psalm 9:17; Revelation 21:7, 8).

7. Jesus Christ shed His blood to forgive sins,  transform sinners who are truly ashamed of their sins and for salvation from the eternal cost of sin.         (Romans 3:25; 1 John 3:5-10; Ephesians 2:1-10).

8. We are saved by faith in Jesus alone, not good deeds. (Romans 5:1).

9. We should get baptized in water shortly after we realize Jesus is Lord.

10. Sanctification (Being set apart for God's service) delivers us from the power and dominion of perpetual sin. It is a lifelong growth process in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:16; 2 Peter 3:18).

11. We can be baptized in the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts are available to believers.                                                                                   (Luke 11:13; Acts 1:5; 2:1-4; 8:17; 10:44-46; 19:6; Isaiah 53:4, 5; Matthew 8:16, 17; Mark 16:14-18; James 5:14-16; Exodus 15:26).

12. Jesus Christ is literally coming again soon, so we must dedicate our life to telling everyone about His Good News.                     (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Titus 2:13; 2 Peter 3:10-14; Matthew 24:29-44; 2 Timothy 4:8 Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-20; Acts 1:8).
